Air Marshal Shahid Hamid (Retd.) was born in 1949 in Pakistan. Mr. Hamid joined Pakistan Air Force in 1966. He did his Bachelors in Engineering (Avionics) from College of Aeronautical Engineering Pakistan and BSc. in Strategic Studies. He mostly worked in the field of research and development. Mr. Hamid is the founder of the one of the most prestigious R & D organizations, Advanced Engineering Research Organization (AERO) / Air Weapons Complex (AWC) in Pakistan.
He also has the distinct honor of being a part of the "Classified Program" where his professional contributions gave the people of Pakistan something that they could take pride in with respect to the "Classified Program". Thus also making him one of those unsung heroes who devoted their lives for the betterment of this great nation.
In 2003, Mr. Hamid retired as an Air Marshal from Pakistan Air Force and following his passion in innovative technologies founded Alternative Energy Development Board (AEDB). The AEDB being the sole representing agency of the Federal Government was established in May 2003 with the main objective to facilitate, promote and encourage development of Renewable Energy in Pakistan. As the first Chairman of AEDB, Mr. Hamid and his team had the privilege of formulated the first-ever renewable policy for Pakistan, which was approved by the Government of Pakistan in 2006. The main purpose of this policy was to promote and develop enabling environments for national and international investors in the field of Alternative Resources of Energy. As a result AEDB was successful in attracting 98 investors globally to set up 50 Mega-Watt Wind farms each in Pakistan. Furthermore, Mr. Hamid also presented papers on alternative energy sources in conferences/ seminars in various countries such as USA, China, Germany, India, Turkey etc.
